How do I know if the quality of my image file is good enough?

To ensure your prints come out sharp, detailed, and professional, it’s important to check your image file quality before uploading. Here are the key factors to consider:

1. DPI (Dots Per Inch)

  • Recommended DPI:

For optimal print quality, your image should be at least 150 DPI at the final print size.

  • What does DPI mean?

DPI measures the resolution of your image in printing. A low DPI can result in blurry or pixelated prints, especially on larger products like posters or canvases.

  • Example:

If you’re printing a 30x40 cm poster, your file should be 30x40 cm at 300 DPI (which equals 3543 x 4724 pixels).

2. File Size

  • Recommended minimum:

Generally, files should be at least 10-20 MB for smaller prints.

  • Why does file size matter?

Extremely small files usually indicate low resolution or heavy compression, which can cause visible quality loss when printed.

  • Tip:

Always export your files in high quality settings from your design software to preserve clarity.

3. Colour Profiles

  • Recommended colour profile:

Use sRGB colour profile for your images.

  • Why sRGB?

sRGB is the standard for most print on demand products, ensuring your colours appear consistent and vibrant across devices and prints.

  • Other profiles:

While Adobe RGB has a wider gamut, it can produce unexpected results if your file is printed in sRGB workflows. Always convert to sRGB before uploading to avoid colour shifts.

Quick Checklist Before Uploading

  • Is your image at 150 DPI at the print size?
  • Is the file size large enough (10-20 MB minimum, ideally more for large prints)?
  • Is your colour profile set to sRGB?

If your image meets these three standards, it is ready for high-quality printing on Printumo products.
