Duplicating a product makes an instant copy of one of your live products: the same artwork, the same sizes and framings, and the same prices. The copy appears in your product list straight away, named after the original with " - Copy" added, and you can then change anything you like on it.
When to use it
Duplicating saves you from setting up sizes, framings and prices all over again. It is useful when you want to:
Offer a second version of the same artwork, for example a different crop or a different canvas wrap.
Reuse a set of sizes and prices you are happy with for a brand new image: duplicate the product first, then swap the image on the copy.
Try a different title, description or price without touching the original listing.
Step 1: Duplicate the product
Duplicating is done from your product list. It is available on products that are Active, so a product you are still creating or editing cannot be duplicated yet.
Go to Products.
Find the product you want to copy and click the three dots button at the end of its row.
Click "Duplicate".
You are taken back to your product list and see the message "Product duplicated successfully!".
The copy is created as a finished, Active product. There is no set-up flow to walk through: everything is already filled in. Its mockup images are generated in the background, so give them a moment to appear.
What gets copied
The copy is a complete duplicate of the original:
The artwork itself, including the crop and every aspect ratio you had set up.
Every size and framing option you currently offer on the product.
The price of each size, exactly as it is on the original, along with the profit margin behind it.
The print type, market, currency and country settings.
Canvas settings, including wrap type and wrap colour.
The title (with " - Copy" added) and the product description.
Your mockup selection. The mockup images themselves are regenerated for the copy.
One thing to be aware of: sizes you had previously removed from the original are not brought back. Only the sizes the product still offers today are copied.
What does not get copied
The copy is a Printumo product only. It is not connected to any of your sales channels, even if the original was:
It is not created on Shopify, Etsy, Wix, WooCommerce or Squarespace.
It is not added to your Printumo Shop or to any of its collections.
This is deliberate, so that duplicating never publishes something to your store before you are ready. See "Publishing the copy" below.
Step 2: Change what you need on the copy
The copy is a normal product, so you edit it the same way you edit any other:
To change the title, description, sizes or prices, open the three dots menu on the copy and click "Edit". The product shows an Editing badge until you finish the flow.
To put a different image on it, open the three dots menu and click "Change image". This is the quickest way to reuse a proven set of sizes and prices for a new artwork.
Please note: renaming a duplicated product also changes its public web address. If you have already added the copy to your Printumo Shop, any link you shared to it will change when you rename it, so it is best to settle on the title before you share the link.
Step 3: Publish the copy to your store
Because the copy is not connected to any sales channel, you add it yourself when it is ready. In your product list, use the button on the copy's row: "Add to Shopify", "Add to Etsy", "Add to Wix", "Add to WooCommerce", "Add to Squarespace" or "Add to Shop", depending on where you sell. The copy is then created as a new listing on that channel, completely separate from the original.
If duplicating does not work
If something is missing, you will see a message starting with "Could not duplicate product". The usual reasons are:
"Source product must be accepted": the product is still being created or is currently in editing. Finish the flow so it shows as Active, then duplicate it.
"Source product has no variants": the product has no sizes available. Edit it and add at least one size first.
"Source product has no cropping info": the artwork has not been cropped. Open the product, set the crop, then try again.
"You can only duplicate your own products": you can duplicate products in your own account only.
Nothing is half created when duplication fails, so you can safely fix the issue and click "Duplicate" again. If you are still stuck, get in touch with us and we will take a look.
