Connect your own domain to your Printumo Shop

By default your Printumo Shop lives on a printumo.com web address. You can replace this with a domain you own, like yourstore.com, so customers see your brand from the first click through to checkout. SSL and verification are handled for you in the background.

The whole setup takes about 10 minutes of your time, plus a short wait for the internet to catch up (usually a few minutes, sometimes up to 48 hours).

Before you start

You will need:

  • A Printumo Shop that is already installed and published.

  • A domain you own. If you do not have one yet, see the section "How to buy a domain" below.

  • The login details for the website where you bought your domain (your "domain provider").

Common domain providers include GoDaddy, Namecheap, IONOS, one.com, Google Domains / Squarespace Domains, Hover, Gandi, and OVH. The setup is similar at all of them.

Step 1: Open the Domains page in Printumo

  1. Sign in to Printumo at printumo.com.

  2. In the left sidebar, click Shop.

  3. Click the Domains tab.

You should see your Default address (the printumo.com web address your shop uses today) and a box to Connect your own domain.

Step 2: Add your domain in Printumo

  1. In the Connect your own domain box, type your domain. For example, yourstore.com.

    • Do not include https:// or any trailing slashes. Just the domain.

  2. Click Add domain.

Printumo will save your domain and show you a list of DNS records. These records are the instructions that tell the internet to send visitors of yourstore.com to your Printumo Shop.

You will usually see two or three rows, with three columns each:

  • Type (either A or CNAME)

  • Host name (@, www, or a subdomain like shop)

  • Required value (an IP address or a hostname)

Keep this page open in a second tab. You will copy values from here in the next step.

Tip: If you typed an apex domain like yourstore.com, Printumo also adds the www.yourstore.com version automatically and points it at the same shop. You do not need to add www separately.

Step 3: Open the DNS settings at your domain provider

  1. Open a new browser tab and sign in to the website where you bought your domain.

  2. Find your domain in your account. The menu is usually called My domains, Domain list, or similar.

  3. Click into your domain and look for a section called DNS, DNS management, Manage DNS, Advanced DNS, or DNS records.

Every provider names this section a little differently, but it always looks like a table of rows with Type, Host (or Name), and Value (or Points to / Target).

If you cannot find it, search your provider's help center for "edit DNS records" together with the provider name. For example, "edit DNS records GoDaddy".

Step 4: Remove old A and CNAME records (important)

Before adding new records, look at the existing rows in your DNS settings.

  • If you see a row with Type A and Host @ pointing to an IP address that is not the one Printumo shows you, delete it.

  • If you see a row with Type CNAME and Host www pointing somewhere that is not ingress.printumo.com, delete it.

Old records pointing at a previous website or a "parked" page will block your domain from connecting to Printumo.

Safe to keep: records of type MX (email), TXT, NS, and SOA. These do not affect your shop. Only remove A and CNAME records for the host names Printumo asks you to add.

Step 5: Add the records Printumo gave you

For each row Printumo shows on the Domains page:

  1. Click Copy next to the Required value in Printumo.

  2. In your domain provider, click Add record (or Add new, Create record).

  3. Set the Type to match Printumo (A or CNAME).

  4. Set the Host (or Name) to match Printumo:

    • @ means "the domain itself", for example yourstore.com. Some providers want this typed as @, others want it left blank, others want the full domain typed in.

    • www means the www. version, like www.yourstore.com.

  5. Paste the value into the Value (or Points to / Target) field.

  6. Leave the TTL at the default. If asked, choose Automatic or 1 hour.

  7. Click Save.

Repeat for every row Printumo shows. Most setups have two or three records in total.

Step 6: Wait for the connection

You are done. Go back to the Printumo Domains page and leave it open.

  • The status starts as Setting up with an amber dot.

  • Printumo checks your domain in the background. The page updates by itself, you do not need to refresh.

  • When the connection is ready, the status turns to Connected with a green dot.

This usually happens within a few minutes. In rare cases it can take up to 48 hours, depending on your domain provider. There is nothing more you need to do during this time.

What you should see when it works

  • The Domains page shows your domain with a green Connected dot.

  • Typing your domain into a browser opens your Printumo Shop.

  • The browser shows a padlock icon next to your domain (this means SSL is active and the connection is encrypted).

  • Both yourstore.com and www.yourstore.com work and show the same shop.

Common problems and how to fix them

"Setting up" never turns green

The most common cause is an old record that was not removed. Go back to Step 4 and check that:

  • There is no other A record for @ pointing somewhere else.

  • There is no other CNAME for www pointing somewhere else.

After removing them, the next background check will pick up the change. You do not need to delete or re-add the domain in Printumo.

Status flipped to "Needs attention"

This means the records have not started pointing at Printumo for 24 hours since you added the domain. Open the DNS settings at your provider and confirm the records match exactly what Printumo shows. If they look right and you still see "Needs attention", email us at [email protected] and we will check from our side.

"Domain is reserved by Printumo"

You tried to add a printumo.com address (like mystore.printumo.com). Use a domain you own at a real domain provider instead.

"Only one custom domain is supported per shop"

Each shop can have one custom domain (with its www companion). Disconnect the existing one first if you want to switch.

The site loads but shows a security warning

SSL takes a moment to issue after your DNS starts pointing at Printumo. Wait 5 to 10 minutes and refresh the page. If it still shows a warning after 30 minutes, email [email protected].

Disconnecting a domain

On the Domains page, click Disconnect next to your domain. If you connected an apex domain, the www version is disconnected at the same time. Your shop goes back to using its default printumo.com address right away.

How to buy a domain

If you do not own a domain yet:

  1. Go to a domain provider's website. Reliable options include namecheap.com, godaddy.com, one.com, ionos.com, and gandi.net.

  2. Search for the name you want, for example yourstore.com.

  3. If it is available, add it to your cart and pay. Domains cost roughly $10 to $20 per year.

  4. Skip any extra products the provider tries to sell (hosting, email, "domain privacy" is optional but harmless).

  5. Once you own the domain, come back to this guide and start at Step 1.

Still stuck?

Email [email protected] and tell us:

  • The domain you are trying to connect.

  • The name of your domain provider.

  • A screenshot of your DNS settings, if you can.

We will walk you through it.
