EU product safety (GPSR) for your products

Why your business name, address and contact email appear on your EU listings, what Printumo publishes, and how to publish a business address instead of your home address.

The EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) requires every listing sold to EU customers to show who stands behind the product. That is why your business name, address and a contact email appear on your listings. Printumo adds this information automatically. This article explains what is published, why it is published, and how to publish a business address instead of your home address.

Why your details appear on your listings

An EU shopper must be able to see who made a product, and how to reach them, before they buy. A listing without those details does not meet the GPSR, and sales channels can take it down.

Under the GPSR you are the manufacturer, because you place the products on the market under your own shop name. Printumo is your print partner, not the manufacturer, so the details shown are yours rather than ours.

Printumo publishes three things and nothing else: your business name, your postal address, and a public contact email that you choose. Your account login email, your phone number, your VAT number and your payment details are never published.

What Printumo adds to your listings

When you publish or edit a product, Printumo automatically adds a product safety section to the listing description on Shopify and Etsy. It includes:

  1. Manufacturer: your business name, address and public contact email.

  2. EU Responsible Person: Printumo ApS, if you have appointed us (see below).

  3. Safety information: standard wall-art safety wording.

On Shopify, Printumo also sets the customs commodity (HS) code 4911 91 00 on each product variant, so your customs information is complete.

Step 1: Add your billing address

Your billing address provides the manufacturer name and address required on EU listings, so it must be completed before you can publish to Shopify or Etsy. It is also the address that gets published, unless you add a separate business address (see "Working from home" below).

  1. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner, then click Billing.

  2. Fill in your billing address, including your company name and country.

Step 2: Set a public contact email

The GPSR asks for a contact your customers can reach. Printumo only ever publishes an email you choose here, never your account login email.

  1. On the Billing page, find the EU product safety (GPSR) section.

  2. Enter an address in Public contact email and click "Save".

The email is published next to your address, not instead of it. Leave it blank if you prefer to leave it out.

Step 3: Appoint Printumo as your EU Responsible Person

If you are based outside the EU, or do not have your own EU representative, you need an EU Responsible Person. Printumo can act as yours.

  1. In the EU product safety (GPSR) section on the Billing page, click "Appoint Printumo as Responsible Person".

  2. Printumo ApS now appears as your EU Responsible Person on your listings. You can undo this at any time with "Remove Printumo as Responsible Person".

This is a separate role from the manufacturer. It does not replace your own name and address, and it is not needed if you are established in the EU.

Working from home: publish a business address instead

A postal address is required, so it cannot be left out. It does not have to be the address you are billed at. If you trade from home, publish a business or correspondence address instead and your home address stays private.

  1. On the Billing page, go to the EU product safety (GPSR) section.

  2. Under Published business address, fill in Street, No., Postcode, City and Country. Add a Trade name if your business trades under a name that differs from your billing details.

  3. Click "Save". The Manufacturer (you) line just above now shows the exact wording your listings will carry.

Fill in street, postcode, city and country together. A part-filled address is rejected on purpose, so you cannot publish a half-replaced address by mistake. Leave all of the fields blank to publish your billing address instead. The address must be one you control, such as a registered office, a co-working address or a post box that reaches you. Printumo cannot provide an address on your behalf.

Etsy: set your Responsible Person in Etsy too

Etsy does not let apps fill in the manufacturer and Responsible Person fields for you, so you need to set them once in Etsy. This applies to all your EU-facing Etsy listings.

  1. In Etsy, go to Shop Manager, then Settings, then Regulatory compliance.

  2. Set your manufacturer information and your Responsible Person. If you have appointed Printumo, the exact details to paste are shown on your Printumo Stores page in the left menu, in the Etsy settings.

What this looks like on your listings

The product safety section appears at the end of your listing description. A new product carries it as soon as you publish it.

If you change your address or your contact email later, your existing listings need a little more. On Etsy, edit and save the product in Printumo and the section is rewritten. On Shopify, we leave your description alone by default, so that we never overwrite edits you made in Shopify yourself. To let the new details through, go to Stores, open your Shopify store and enable Description overwriting under Product Descriptions. Then edit and save the product in Printumo.
