Your product is active in Printumo and the stock looks right in your Shopify admin, but your storefront says "Sold out", or your customer sees "not available for delivery to your location". This is almost always a shipping problem, not a stock problem. Here is how to work out which cause you have, and what to do about it.
Why a shipping problem shows up as "sold out"
Shopify only lets a customer buy a variant if it can quote a delivery rate for it. Printumo creates the shipping profiles that hold those rates, and attaches each of your variants to the right one. If a variant ends up with no usable rate, Shopify hides the buy button and shows the product as sold out.
Your Shopify admin will still report the stock as 1000, which is why the stock level is a red herring. Printumo also sets every variant to keep selling when stock runs out, so a genuine out-of-stock message is very unlikely.
Cause 1: your store has reached Shopify's limit of 100 shipping profiles
Shopify allows a maximum of 100 delivery profiles for each store. Printumo creates a separate profile for each set of rates it needs, so a large or long-running catalogue can reach that limit.
When the limit is reached, Shopify rejects the new profile and the affected products stay in your Shopify store but are never published. You will see a notification in Printumo titled "Couldn't create Shopify shipping profile." that ends with "The products are in your Shopify store but are not published."
If you see that notification, this is your cause. Contact us. Old profiles left behind by earlier changes usually fill most of the limit, and we can clear them for you.
Cause 2: the variant sits on Shopify's own General profile
Shopify gives every store a General profile. A Printumo variant left on it belongs to a location group that does not include the Printumo fulfilment location, so that profile holds no rate for it.
The symptom is exact: the storefront shows the whole product as sold out, while your Shopify admin still reports it as available. This usually happens to products created at a moment when their profile could not be built, which is often Cause 1 in disguise.
Cause 3: one broken delivery zone has taken a whole profile down
Printumo puts many of your markets into a single shipping profile. If one zone in that profile is invalid, Shopify rejects the whole profile, and every product attached to it loses its rates at the same time.
The usual trigger is a country that Shopify splits into provinces or states, where the zone lists the country but no provinces. New Zealand and Canada are the common ones.
The symptom is distinctive. Many products go sold out at once, including products that sold fine yesterday, rather than just the newest one.
Cause 4: we do not ship that print type to your market's country
Canvas prints and fine art paper prints are made by different production partners, so they do not reach exactly the same countries. Canvas prints reach 44 countries and fine art paper prints reach 39.
If your shop's market includes a country we do not ship that print type to, Shopify has no rate to quote and shows the product as unavailable. Products of the other print type in the same shop keep selling normally, which is a good clue.
The most common surprise is New Zealand: we ship canvas prints there, but not fine art paper prints. Check the full country lists in "Shipping overview" before troubleshooting anything else.
Cause 5: the stock sits at the wrong location
Printumo keeps your variants stocked at its own fulfilment location in your Shopify store. Three things can go wrong there:
The quantity at the Printumo location has fallen to zero or below. Shopify then shows the product as sold out.
There is no stock record at the Printumo location at all. The stock is still sitting on one of your own locations, so the variant cannot be sold even though the quantity looks correct.
The variant is stocked at the Printumo location and at one of your own locations at the same time. This one is worse than a sold-out message. Shopify may route the order to your own location instead of to us, so the order never reaches Printumo and never gets produced.
Printumo checks for all three every hour and repairs them, but a product changed by hand in Shopify can fall back into them.
The first thing to try: re-link your products
One action fixes most of the causes above. It rebuilds your shipping profiles, reattaches every variant to the right one, and republishes your products.
In Printumo, open "Stores" and choose your Shopify store.
Find the "Re-link products with Shopify" section in the store settings.
Click "Re-link Products" and confirm.
The work runs in the background. On a large catalogue it can take several minutes, so give it time before you check your storefront again.
Re-linking will not help with Cause 4, because that is a country we do not reach yet, and it cannot help on its own with Cause 1, because the profiles still have nowhere to go until the limit is cleared.
What Printumo never changes
Printumo only ever creates, renames or edits delivery profiles whose name begins with "Printumo:". Your own delivery profiles and your own rates are never touched, and re-linking does not overwrite them.
If you have edited the rates on a Printumo profile yourself, those edits are stored separately and are put back automatically whenever the profile is rebuilt.
Still sold out?
Send us the link to the product on your storefront and the name of the size that will not sell. Tell us whether every product is affected or only the newest ones, because that single detail separates Cause 1 and Cause 3 from the rest.
